As you venture deeper into the heart of Mustang, the landscape morphs into a mesmerizing blend of arid desert-like terrain, dramatic cliffs, and ancient rock formations — an other-worldly ambience that will transport you to a distant, untouched realm.

SUSTAINABILITY

We integrate our natural surroundings into everything we do.
Our wellness program amplifies nature’s restorative powers. Our cuisine centers on foraged ingredients and local recipes. Our hotels are designed to live light on the land and showcase the artistry of our communities.
But sustainability is more than just a core value for us: It’s the whole reason for our existence.

Shinta Mani Angkor began life as a dormitory and training facility for students at the Shinta Mani Foundation’s hospitality school — which has provided a free education to more than 300 underprivileged local students — before we upcycled it into a boutique hotel.

In 2015, Bill Bensley and Sokoun Chanpedra acquired 350 hectares (865 acres) of the Cardamom Rainforest that had been slated for logging, despite being home to 54 endangered species. They realized only tourism would generate enough funds to protect it. And Shinta Mani Wild was born.
Today our Foundation, along with like-minded organizations that we partner with, works to preserve the natural environment and cultural heritage everywhere we operate. By staying with us, you become part of that mission.
SUSTAINABILITY Stories

When we built Shinta Mani Wild, we tried to disturb the jungle environment as little as possible. So none of the grade was altered, and not a single major tree was cut. Which is why Butterfly Tent, for one, has a tree right in the middle of it.

In renovating Shinta Mani Mustang, we reused everything we could — furniture, artwork, cushions — picking through storerooms of salvaged materials from the 2015 earthquake to upcycle.

We prioritize recruiting talent from the community — regardless of experience level. If you’re a local with a good attitude, we’ll give you a job. Creating high-value jobs where they don’t exist allows people to stay where they are, not move to the city to look for work.

At Shinta Mani Mustang, we’ve partnered with local foragers and farmers to create dishes filled with the unique flavors and traditions of the Himalayas: wild mushroom risotto, roasted lamb chop with rosemary jus, elderflower panna cotta with wild berries — all sourced from nearby.
